Sample Letter for Existing Customers to Notify Organizations on New SSN Law
- Businesses can continue their current practices regarding the use of SSNs for existing customers unless customers request otherwise in writing. The organization must comply within 30 days from the receipt of the customer's request. Many companies are already complying with the requirements of Civil Code Section 1798.85 for all their customers. If you want to ask the companies or other non-government organizations with which you do business to follow the new law's requirements now, send them a letter such as this sample letter. (PDF)
